What this document covers

This privacy policy governs your use of the software application Dark Red (referred to within this document as both as ‘Dark Red’ and ‘the Application’). The Application was created by Nicholas Holmes and has been developed for iOS. The Application will allow you to interact with the web services of Reddit (https://reddit.com) through use of the Reddit API.

1. What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?

a) User Provided Information

When using a Reddit account within Dark Red, the Application will collect the following User Provided Information:

(a) transaction-related information, such as when you make purchases of Dark Red in-app purchases

(b) information you provide us when you contact us for help

When signing in to a Reddit Account, Dark Red will request access to typical Reddit user information (such as username, subscribed subreddits, and other Reddit data available through Reddit web services). This information is stored only on your device and is not collected externally. It will only be used in order to provide you with access to Reddits services.

Use of a Reddit account within Dark Red is also subject to Reddits terms and conditions (https://www.redditinc.com/policies) and privacy policy (https://www.redditinc.com/policies/privacy-policy).

b) Automatically Collected Information 

Dark Red uses services provided by Google Firebase (https://firebase.google.com) and Apple in order to improve the quality and performance of the Application. The use of these services requires the automatic collection of non-identifying information, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile devices unique device ID, your mobile operating system, records of how and when the Application is used (such as when buttons are selected, or when screens are accessed), and information about the way you use the Application. 

This data is for the sole purpose ensuring a smooth and crash free experience of the Application. Without it, debugging poor performance or instances of crashes is incredibly difficult. If you wish, you can still choose to opt-out of this automatic collection through the Settings page of the Application.

c) Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?

Dark Red will only disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information to third parties:

  • as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process
  • as required for insurance and/or litigation purposes
  • when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request

d) What are my opt-out rights?

You can stop all collection of information by the Application either by uninstalling the Application or deselecting ‘Send analytics data’ within the Settings screen of the Application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.    

2. Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information

We will retain User Provided Information until it is no longer required in order to provide you with the services of the Application. We will retain Automatically Collected Information and may store it in aggregate. If you’d like us to delete User Provided Information that you have provided via the Application, please contact us at DarkRedDeveloper@gmail.com and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the User Provided Information may be required in order for the Application to function properly.

3. Children

We do not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 16. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us at DarkRedDeveloper@gmail.com. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.

4. Security

When signing into a Reddit account through the Application, Dark Red will use the OAUTH 2.0 protocol (set out in RFC 8252 - OAuth 2.0 for Native Apps) facilitated through the AppAuth for iOS SDK (see https://github.com/openid/AppAuth-iOS). As such, Dark Red will not have access to user passwords.

We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorised employees and contractors who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our Application. Please be aware that, although we endeavour provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

5. Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We may notify you of any changes to our Privacy Policy by posting the new Privacy Policy on our website or in this application. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.

By using the Application, you are consenting to our processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. “Processing” means using cookies on a computer/hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities will take place in Australia. If you reside outside Australia your information will be transferred, processed and stored there under Australia privacy standards.
